Deaths Related to Defective Takata Airbags On the Rise

There have been several reports in recent weeks of deaths related to defective airbags produced by Takata, a Japanese auto company and parts supplier. As a result, more than 14 million automobiles from 11 different automakers that use the airbags have been recalled across the world. 

The defect found in the airbags seems to be causing the airbags to explode when they are deployed, which can cause severe wounds and lacerations to drivers and passengers. The force of the explosion sends shrapnel from within the vehicle flying directly at people within the car, making the accidents even more dangerous. 

Federal safety regulators are urging anyone who owns one of the vehicle affected by the recall to get their airbags fixed immediately. Among the largest automakers whose cars are affected by the recalls are Honda and Toyota. The recalls have created a great deal of confusion, as companies such as these did not have appropriate warning about the issues related to the airbags. This is just the latest recall story for the auto industry, following unprecedented mass recalls by General Motors in the United States of more than 50 million vehicles earlier this year.
