September 11, 2012 | Michael Barasch

September 11, 2001, was undoubtedly one of the most tragic days in American history. Today, individuals from around the globe can honor the men, women and children killed during the attack at the new 9/11 Memorial in New York City. Individuals who cannot visit the memorial in New York City can explore the memorial online.

Visiting the 9/11 Memorial is a wonderful way to pay your respects to the brave police officers, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel who lost their lives while serving their country. A visit to the memorial also provides a good opportunity to celebrate and embrace the spirit of justice for which the United States is known. Thanks to the hard work of experienced lawyers and the dedication of federal judges, many of the victims’ families received economic help after the attacks. Many children of first responders were awarded college scholarships.

The 9/11 Memorial features the names of all the individuals who died during the attacks. The 9/11 Memorial Park, located at Ground Zero, features two beautiful memorial pools designed to help visitors reflect on this disastrous day. The names of victims are inscribed in a bronze parapet that rings the memorial pools. Prior to visiting, individuals can look up the names of friends and family members who died during the attacks.

The 9/11 Memorial is designed to be visited by individuals from all walks of life. Parents can feel comfortable bringing their children to this important memorial. Extensive information about the attacks as well as the first responders, who worked hard to save the lives of the building’s workers and visitors, is presented in interpretive exhibits. Visitors can also pay their respects to the departed at the nearby Trinity Church, where first responders from around the nation gathered after the attack.
