Huge Keurig Recall Affects Seven Million Machines

January 19, 2015 | Dominique A. Penson

Keurig made big news around the holiday season when it issued a recall of approximately seven million of its single-serve coffee brewing machines. According to the company, the recall was to address the issue of reported burns associated with using the machines.

The specific product recalled was the Keurig Mini Plus Brewing System with model number K10. According to Keurig, the product has been discovered to potentially overheat and spray water while it is brewing coffee. The company has received approximately 200 reports of liquid flying out of the product, and about 90 reports of people who have suffered burns related to use of the Mini Plus Brewing System product.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission released the details of the recall just two days before Christmas. All of the recalled products have an identification number on the bottom beginning with “31.” The products were sold between 2009 and 2014 in the United States, Canada and online. Anyone who has bought one of these products within that five-year timespan is encouraged to check to see if it is the same model number and a qualifying identification number. Those people who have bought the product are eligible for a free repair by calling Keurig Green Mountain Inc. in Waterbury, Vermont.

Burn injuries range in severity, but have the potential to be quite serious and severely inhibit a person’s daily activities and ability to perform at work. If you have suffered a burn injury that you believe was related to one of the defective products produced by Keurig, you may be entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit and earn compensation.
