Rally with mock funeral procession calls for better safety at NYC’s construction sites

December 11, 2015 | Michael Barasch

Mike Barasch applauded the construction union members’ demonstration outside his office, by City Hall. The 18 construction deaths in NYC last year should serve as a cruel reminder how dangerous a job these men and women have. “Construction safety must be a paramount concern whenever buildings are erected. We are all happy to see cranes throughout the City. Construction means that NYC’s economy is booming. However, worker safety must come before the building owners’ and construction companies’ profits. Hopefully, big law suits and verdicts against negligent building owners and construction companies will convince the building owners and construction comapnies to follow safety rules and regulations,” Barasch said. “That’s the only way we can protect the lives of these hard-working laborers.”
