Woman Struck by Cab in New York’s Times Square

A California woman who was visiting New York City for the funeral of a friend suffered a severe leg injury in a freak accident in Times Square. She was reportedly lifting her luggage into the trunk of a yellow taxicab when suddenly another taxi appeared behind and struck her, sandwiching her and pinning her legs between the bumpers.

According to witnesses, the victim, a 42-year-old woman, was loading luggage into the taxi, which was stopped at a red light in a middle lane, at around 5:50 a.m. on Monday, March 2 on 7^th Avenue near 49^th Street. Witnesses say that the cab driver who struck the woman from behind was distracted at the time, and that the victim was bleeding heavily after the crash. She was reportedly in stable condition the day after the accident occurred.

The cab driver who was picking up Mifsud blamed the other driver in the accident, saying that after the light changed he did not even look to see if there was anyone in the road. The driver that hit her, 34-year-old Mohamed Genedia, told police that he simply could not see her in the darkness of the early morning hours. He, in turn, blamed the other driver for picking her up in the middle of the street.
