Worker Dies in Construction Accident in Manhattan

An accident in the Garment District in Manhattan led to the death of a construction worker, according to the Fire Department of New York. The FDNY was present on the scene responding to an accident call from a construction project located on West 37^th Street near 8^th and 9^th avenues. 

Investigators obtained video taken on a phone by a worker who was up above the scene of the accident. The victim was killed after being trapped beneath a large concrete slab that collapsed. It is unclear exactly how the slab fell, but it apparently was knocked from a corner where workers were doing some excavation work. The worker was trapped underneath, and the injuries resulted in his death. A nearby office building was evacuated after the accident as a precaution, but there were no more injuries that occurred to workers or passersby.
